New football magazine Twentyfour7 featured an interview in its first edition with Manchester City defender Micah Richards, in which he talks about his new role as ambassador for Alive & Kicking. The piece focuses on Micah’s rise to stardom, recent injury problems and future ambitions, as well as his charity work and role at A&K. “To help people who aren’t as fortunate in life is always a good thing,” said the 24-year-old right back.

The magazine also featured a full page advert for Balls For Africa, an opportunity to buy a ball for yourself and donate another to a child in Kenya, which is available for £20 from John Lewis and online here

Twentyfour7 Football is out now, available in digital and print editions.

Alive & Kicking recently launched a third stitching centre, in Accra, Ghana. We believe this is an extremely exciting development and The Metro, with a readership of over 3 million, agrees. In a two-page spread in the middle of the paper, they outline A&K’s vision and history before detailing our plans in West Africa.

‘Alive & Kicking: Providing footballs, jobs and AIDS awareness in Africa’

Alive & Kicking recently launched ‘Balls For Africa’ in John Lewis stores across the UK. The initiative sees a ball donated in Kenya for every one sold in the UK. The Telegraph picked up on the project and included this profile in the Telegraph Magazine.

Guardian article about Alive & Kicking

Alive & Kicking’s concerns over Hyundai and FIFA’s recent programme to donate 1 million ‘dream balls’ across Africa have been picked up by the British press.

The Guardian’s Digger noted the potential for the World Cup legacy to have a ‘toxifying influence’, whilst the Mail on Sunday featured a similar story.

Alive & Kicking has ongoing concerns about the development impact of donating 1 million plastic balls across Africa, especially as the balls have not been produced in the region so might jeopardise the jobs of local manufacturers.

Bloomsburg publication Business Week featured Alive & Kicking as 3rd on a list of ’25 products that might just change the World’. Alive & Kicking balls were commended for being ‘inexpensive, durable [and] repairable’, with our health awareness messages also mentioned.

Sughra Hussain in Glamour Magazine

The story of Alive & Kicking’s very own Sughra Hussain has been featured in January 2011′s edition of Glamour magazine. Sughra has recently taken over as Country Director of Alive & Kicking Zambia and although a little shy, is happy that her story has helped spread the word of Alive & Kicking’s work.

Daily Telegraph and The ObserverWith the World Cup held for the first time in Africa, the summer of 2010 provided plenty of media coverage for Alive & Kicking. Articles of note included a piece by Henry Winter, an A&K Trustee, in The Telegraph about the inequalities of the World Cup. Further coverage was supplied by The Observer, who described the story of Alison Tafeni, one of Alive & Kicking’s disabled stitchers in our Zambian centre. Alive & Kicking was also featured in The Mercury (a South African paper) in relation to the poor performance of The Jabulani ball and the conditions it is made in.

Dan Magness World Record Alive & Kicking

Alive & Kicking received substantial coverage across a range of outlets thanks to Dan Magness’ keepy-uppy World Record attempt. Dan, a keen supporter of A&K, walked over 30 miles across London, keeping a ball up with his feet, knees, shoulder and head. Alive & Kicking  would like to congratulate Dan for achieving the new record, and for providing plenty of publicity for Alive & Kicking in the process.
